Online Gaming
Malta is today the world’s largest online gaming jurisdiction. Since 2004, Malta received more than 450 remote gaming applications and boasts a labour force of 2,085 employees who are directly employed in the remote gaming industry.
Credence offers a total solution to the online gaming industry, setting up licences in Malta and advising on all legal and financial issues relating to the licensing, relocation and administration of online gaming companies.
Malta offers four types of online gaming licences;
Class 1: Casino Style Games, Lotteries and Slots
This licence applies for operators who offer games which are based on repetitive events and the gaming risk is managed by the operator. This type of licence covers casino table style games, lotteries and slots.
Class 2: Sports Betting
This licence covers operators who manage risk based on singular events using markets. This licence covers the traditional fixed odds betting and some forms of pool betting.
Class 3: P2P, Betting Exchanges, Skins, Tournaments, Bingo
This licence applies to operators who organise player to player games but do not partake in the risk, such as betting exchange providers, pools and poker rooms.
Class 4: Software vendors
This licence covers software vendors and platform operators who intend to host and manage remote gaming operators having any class of the above. They cannot partake in the gaming risk.
Gaming tax
Gaming tax is payable as follows;
Class 1 – Euro 4,600 per month for the first six months Euro 7,200 per month thereafter
Class 2 – Fixed odds - 0.5% of gross bets Pool betting - 0.5% of stakes paid
Class 3 – 5% on fixed income
Class 4 - Host - Nil for first 6 months Euro 2,400 per month for next 6 months Euro 4,600 per month thereafter
Class 1 on Class 4 Euro 1,250 per month payable by Host.
Provided that the total tax is capped at Euro 466,000 per licence per year.
